Confessions of an ADHD Coach: AI vs ADHD - Yay or Nay?
Alright, it’s time for a spicy confession from me, your resident neurospicy coach...
I freakin' LOVE AI.
Yep. I said it.
There, in between the reels of productivity guilt and the endless rabbit holes of "why can't I just DO the thing?!", I found a new little lifeline: Artificial Intelligence.
Chat GPT, Goblin Tools, Tactiq-AI Note Taker, Meta, Google Gemini
Now before you eye-roll and picture some robot doing my job while I sip tea with Sooty (my beloved neurospicy sausage pup), hear me out.
I’m not saying AI replaces me. I’m saying it supports me — and my ADHD — in ways I didn’t even know I needed.
Let’s talk ADHD & Executive Dysfunction
If you’ve ever:
-
Spent 45 minutes rewriting the same email 7 times worrying it sounds too blunt
-
Had an amazing idea then forgot it two minutes later
-
Wanted to start a blog post or client doc but didn’t know where to begin
-
Struggled to get the words from your head onto the page
-
Panicked over structure, tone, or where the hell to start...
Then you get it.
That, my friend, is where AI comes in.
AI is not cheating. It’s scaffolding.
We don’t shame people for using calculators, spellcheckers or ramps. So why shame people for using a tool that helps them get sh*t done in a brain-friendly way?
I use AI to:
-
Clarify my tone when I’m deep in RSD mode and second-guessing myself
-
Break down chunky overwhelming tasks into clear, doable steps
-
Help me connect ideas when my thoughts are too loud to land
-
Create templates I can reuse (because novelty fatigue is REAL)
-
Get different perspectives when I’m stuck in black-and-white thinking
But I never let it take over.
AI might help me find the words, but the voice? That’s all me, baby.
I still add my sass, my ADHD Detective metaphors, and yes — occasionally a dog pun. (You’re welcome.)
AI supports my creativity, it doesn't steal it. It helps me bridge the gap in my executive functioning, and honestly? It’s helped me feel more capable, not less.
Let’s flip the script
I wish I had a tool like this when I was stuck in 9-5 burnout cycles, second-guessing every decision, trying to force my neurodivergent brain into neurotypical systems.
I'll be honest - at first the thought of using AI for me was terrifying, and I genuinely doubted its use/effectiveness - all because I made assumptions from social media, news articles and quite honestly the hype/beliefs of people around me... but this is something that I wish I noticed earlier... so I could get out of my own way and get to utilise it that much sooner!
Now I get to use tech to support how my brain works, not punish it.
So yeah, I’m Team AI. With boundaries. And a hell of a lot of gratitude for helping me be the best entrepreneur I can be - WITH ADHD!
Because using AI as an ADHDer isn’t cheating. It’s strategy.
It’s not a shortcut. It’s self-awareness - because I have a literal ADHD blindspot in that area!
And if it helps you move from stuck to action, from spiralling to thriving? Then that’s a win in my book.
What are your thoughts?! Heidi xo
